SS Caracas
I, Wm H. Hopkins, Master of the Am SS Caracas do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said SS Caracas at Laguaira P?? Cabello & Caracas from which ports said Steamer has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. So help me God.
Sworn to this July 8th 1882 before me (signature cannot be read).
List or Manifest of all the passengers taken on board the American SS Caracas whereof Wm H. Hopkins is Master, from Wilmington, Del burthen 1588 52/ tons.

transcriber or is used to call your attention to additional information in the

The ? indicates letters or words that cannot be read due to the quality of the
original document.
#1 Initial of first name cannot be deciphered; only the bottom part of the letter
is visible, which curves to the left in a loop. The u in the last name appears to
have an umlaut over it; but may be a smudge. Looking at other similar letters on
list, letter may be F, T or G. Occupation may be abbreviation for merchant.
#3 Last letter of surname looks like either an n or r. Age may be 36. Sex appears
to be two letters which would be female as noted on other female names. First two
letters of occupation illegible; but a definite space then a afterwards.
#4 First name may be a ditto mark, and therefore Rev. Unable to read remaining
letters of surname.
#7 Unable to read months in age column.
#8 No occupation listed.
#10 Fourth letter in first name may be r or s; last two letters may be eo or es.
Name may be Charles.
#11 No occupation listed. Unable to read notation in column County in which they
intend to become inhabitants.
#12 Unable to read first name/initial. ? in surname may be a or e. Occupation may
be clerk.
#13 First letter of second name appears to start high to the left and curve towards
bottom with loop towards left; may be F or G; second letter may be u or i; unable
to read letters after g. Last name almost illegible except for g.
#14 Cannot read first letter of surname; after z letters are lower case and do not
extend below or above line.
#15 Tear in page under entire name. Unable to tell if letters extend below line.
First name may begin with A; second letter could be r; name may be Aristedes.
Cannot read occupation except for i.
#17 Age may be 46; cannot read notation in months. No occupation listed.
#18 First letter may be H. No occupation listed.
#19 Age may be 52. Occupation may be artist.
#20 Second letter in surname could be a or i; seventh letter could be n or w;
