I, John Ovenstone Master of the Steam Ship Caledonia do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a ful and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said S.S. Caledonia at Glasgow & Moville for which ports said Steam Ship Caledonia has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.
So help me God.

a * indicates an omission or error made by the original recorder. ? The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read, due to quality of original manifest. * In the "Sworn to" line, the last name letters are run together, the first letter could be a W but all other letters are unreadable. * The column "The Country in which they intend to become inhabitants" is listed as U.S. or United States for all passengers so the transcriber has omitted that column for spacing reasons. * Where the first name is listed as only an initial, the original recorder has entered a . after some but not all so for continuity and spacing reasons, the transcriber has omitted the .'s from the first name initials of all passengers. * The column "Died on the Voyage" has been crossed out on the original manifest and No. of Pkgs has been written in. * The original recorder has a line drawn in the occupation column for children and most of the women and if an occupation was not given for a woman, the transcriber has left the column blank. * At the top of the manifest is written "1 death ? ?????. Also written One Death * The Master, John Ovenstone, has signed his name after the list of Cabin Passengers, and again after the last passenger # 251, Passenger # 4 - First name has a raised d, maybe short for Richard. Passenger # 5 - First name has a raised d, maybe short for Richard. Passenger # 8 - The first name could be Thomas as it looks like the s is raised and the surname could be tower. Passenger # 12 - The surname Tengstrome has a double acute accent(")mark over the o. Passenger # 13 - The surname Rugstommer has a umlaut(^) above the o. Passenger # 17 - The surname Lonsenhoff could also be Linsenhoff Passenger # 21 - 23 - The Nielsen family had a total of 2 pkgs. Passenger # 24 - The surname Landboe could also be Sandboe or Sandbol Passenger # 25 - The surname Largent could also be Sargent Passenger # 27 - I am not sure what the first initial is, I thought it could be a C but is not written like the other C's on the list. It starts out like a C but there is a tail below the line with an enclosed circle on the right side. Passenger # 28 - The name could also be W L Gay. The original recorder was not consistent in writing L and S. Passenger # 29 - The Gay family had 3 packages. Passenger # 30 - The country this passenger came from looks like it has been abbreviated for Scotland and the spelling on pkags is as the original recorder has it. Passenger # 35 - 38 - The Henry family had a total of 3 packages. Passenger # 38 - This passenger's age was listed as Infant, which has been abbreviated as Inf to conserve space. Passenger # 39 - The Gunn family had 1 package. Passenger # 42 - 44 - A. Young, H. Appleton and J. Appleton has 2 packages. There is a bracket by the 3 names so it is possible that they were traveling together. Passenger # 45 - 46 - The Watson family has a total of 3 packages. Passenger # 47 - The surname Sharp could also be Thorp or Tharp. Again due to inconsistancy of T's and S's. Passenger # 53 - The initial of the first name could also be a T for T. Johns. Passenger # 55 - 56 - A Duncan and Dolly Duncan has 1 pkages (as spelled). Passenger # 58 - 59 - A Cuthbertson and M Cuthbertson has 2 pkages(as spelled). Passenger # 64 - E Berwick has Infant written in years (age) column and 10 in the months column. To save spacing, I have entered only the 10m. Passenger # 70 - 73 - The Croall has a 2 packages. Passenger # 74 - 76 - The McKallay family has 3 packages. Passenger # 78 - The first letter of the surname is C and possibly asg as there is a letter with a downward tail that looks like a g. This would make the name Casglisle. The ? letters are smudged and look as if they have been written over making them hard to read Passenger # 79 - 82 - The Boyd family has 7 packages. Passenger # 83 - 85 - The Harrell family has 4 packages. Passenger # 86 - The occupation for this passenger is typed as written on the manifest and it could be meant for seamstress. Passenger # 87 - The age for this passenger has been crossed out with no other entry made. Passenger # 89 - 94 - The Cain family has 7 packages. Passenger # 89 - The first name looks like an abbreviation for Thomas Passenger # 92 - The first name looks like an abbreviation for Margaret. Passenger # 94 - The first name looks like an abbreviation for Elizabeth. Passenger # 99 - 100 - The McVea family has 2 packages. Passenger #101 - 102 - The Murphy family has 2 packages. Passenger #111 - 112 - The McMannas family has 1 package. Passenger #117 - The surname could also McGamany. Passenger #120 - This passenger's age was listed as Infant, which has been abbreviated as Inf to conserve space. Passenger #123 - 127 - The Finn family has 3 packages. Passenger #128 - The ? letters in the surname could be j and d or e, making the name Eajind or Eajine. Passenger #129 - The occupation machinist does not seem to go with a female, but is what the original recorder has listed. Passenger #130 - 138 - The Roberts family has 3 packages. Passenger #143 - The first name could also be Sara although the S is not written like other S's and not exactly like other T's. Passenger #143 - 147 - There are a total of 2 packages for passenger 143 thru 147. The surname for passengers 143 thru 147 could also be Bassa (leading s on the first one) or as I have it spelled Bafsa. Passenger #153 - In the sex column, the original recorder has entered an m then crossed out and an f has been written. Passenger #155 - 161 - The Andersdotter family has 1 package. Passenger #168 - 171 - The ? in the surname looks like a j making the surname Hajstrom and passengers 168 through 171 the Ha?strom family has 4 packages. Passenger #172 - 174 - The Thomphson family traveling together has 3 packages. Passenger #175 - Surname, Lyobawder, has two slanted lines like a quotation mark above the O. Passenger #176 - The name Ingeman?on could be Ingemanson, Ingemanfon but the s does not look like other s's on the list and looks a little like f's that have been written elsewhere. Passenger #179 - 180 - The Waford family has 1 package. Passenger #180 This passenger's age was listed as Infant, which has been abbreviated as Inf to conserve space. Passenger #181 - 184 - The Stoltz family has 2 packages. Passenger #185 - 188 - The Falberg family has 2 packages. Passenger #188 - This passenger's age was listed as Infant, which has been abbreviated as Inf to conserve space. Passenger #189 - Alma Peterson has an M in the sex column that has been crossed out and an F written. Passenger #190 - The number of packages is two (2), it is bracketed together with # 189 seems the two may be traveling together. Passenger #192 - 193 - G. E. Froberg and John H. Froberg have a mark over the O that looks like a quotation mark, there is listed 1 piece of baggage for the two. It may be possible that a misspelling of the surname could have occurred and that passenger #191 Carolina Frodberg may be traveling with them since G. E. and John are young children. Passenger #194 - 195 - Janson's have 2 pieces of baggage. Passenger #195 - This passenger's age was listed as Infant, which has been abbreviated as Inf to conserve space. Passenger #199 - This passenger's age was listed as Infant, which has been abbreviated as Inf to conserve space. Passenger #200 - There are 2 names, F. R. Krickler and B. Blicka and both have been crossed out. F. R. Krickler is listed as passenger #201. All other columns have been crossed out. Passenger #207 - Ge?me Stole has this notation in the baggage column "Died on 26th Sept". The ? in first name could be an i or an a, Geime or Geame. Passenger #216 - The first name Abm could be an abbrevi- ation for Abraham. Passenger #234 - Mettle Kjersgaar has this notation in the baggage column, "Died 28th Sept". Passenger #235 - Mauritz Kjersgaar has this notation in the baggage column, "Died 28th Sept" this could also be 27th Sept, entry is smudged where the second number is. Passenger #251 - The first name Chr could be short for Christopher or Christine given that the original recorder entered an M in the sex column and then crossed out and entered an F.
