I, William Thompson, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the
following List, or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed with my name, and now
delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York,
contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just, and true account
of all the Passengers received on board the Atala whereof I am Master, from
Liverpool, So help me God. William Thompson (signature)

Sworn Statement: Notary signature is unreadable. For weight, "698" is
crossed out and "586 a?" entered for "tons." The ? appears it could be
either "u" or "v".
Note: The original Manifest for this ship was recorded in three separate
sections: Irish passengers (unlabeled section), German Passengers
(labeled section), and First Cabin Passengers (labeled section). The
Irish section was not labeled as such and the names were recorded first
name first, last name second. The German and First Cabin Passengers
were recorded last name first and first name second with few exceptions.
The first names of some of the infants were not recorded.
The person who recorded this manifest initially made use of wavy lines,
"do"s, and ditto marks wherever like information appeared on the preceding
line(s). For example, in the column for "Country in which they intend
to become inhabitants", "America" was written once at the top of each
page. Long wavy lines were then drawn from the initial entry down the
entire length of the page, indicating that passengers listed on that
page were all bound for America. If two "Heinrich"s were listed next
to each other, one had ditto marks or a "do" mark whether or not the
two passengers had the same surname.

Passengers 259-269 inclusive are ancestors of the transcriber, who,
in turn, would appreciate connecting with anyone also sharing the
above named people as ancestors. Andreas Volker was the g-g-grandfather
of the transcriber, and was a successful shoe and boot manufacturer and
retailer for over 35 years in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania. The
transcriber's genealogical researches are new and will be submitting
additional ancestral histories at a later date.

I have a whole web site on Benedict Stimbert and his family, 2 brothers,
parents and siblings still in Germany and so on.
The name was Stümpert and he eventually went by Stimbert. He has two
brothers that came to the USA that went by the name of Stimpert. Benedict
arrived in New York in 1852, married there in 1856, is in Woodford Co. ILL
in 1860 and moves to Clay Co., NE in 1875 and died there in 1911.
