Ship Arctic


Liverpool, England to New York
24 March 1856

DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, Theodore Zeregas, Master of the ship Arctic do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said ship Arctic at Liverpool from which port said ship has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of the said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. Columns represent: Names, Age(both years & months) Sex, Occupation, the country to which they severally belong, The country in which they intend to become inhabitants*, passengers who have died on said voyage*, and the names and ages of those who died.

The use of an * indicates an omission or error made by the original recorder.
The use of a ? indicates word or letter that could not be read due to the
quality of the original document.

*  Destination for all passengers is the United States and there were no deaths
   so those two columns have been eliminated.

*  All are in Steerage except the last four French passengers, who occupy
   Cabins

 7 - The Occupation is illegible--One thing written over another.
11 - The last name is Bergainer or Bergamer.
13 - Last Name?? Looks like Jaboco-Jabocs
14 - Ruth-Rith-Nith-Uth
15-16 - Notation in Occupation Column---Wife & Child going to Husband.
29-30 - Last name --Rabier Rabur??? Occupation---Renfur???
31-32 - Last Name-Riguard??? Occupation---Jabicant-Jabucant???
