Schultz 40 male Farmer Hamburg Transcriber's Notes: The use of an * indicates an omission, error, or abbreviation made by the original recorder and indicates further explanation by the transcriber. The use a ? indicates words or letters not clearly decipherable. The use of a ^ indicates the following letter was superscripted. * Passenger # 3, the age was written as 1/2 - this could mean 1 year 2 months or possibly means 6 months. * Passenger # 4 and 37, the surname is written as Stamer with a horizontal line over the "m", indicating a double "m". * Passenger # 7, middle name is abbreviated as Theo. (possibly for Theodore), and the occupation for this passenger is listed as Particulier which is written out quite clearly - the French translation for this word is "individual" or "person". * Passenger # 8, first name is written as Robt., probably for Robert. * Passenger # 16, the surname could possibly be Bomadgeck. * Passenger # 17, first name has a superscripted "m", first name is probably William. * Passenger # 23, first name has a superscripted "m", first name is probably Joachim. * Passengers # 29, 30 and 38, first names are written as Joh., probably for Johan or Johannes. * Passenger # 32, first name has a superscripted "d", first name is probably Edward. * Passenger # 33, surname could possibly be Haferkom. * Passenger # 45, there appears to be an umlaut over the "o" in the surname. * Passenger # 47 and 48, the third, fourth and fifth letters in the surname are not clear. The surname could possibly be Struve or possibly Stuwe. * Passenger # 49, third letter in surname is not clear, the surname could be Bramer or Bromer. * Passenger # 50, first name is abbreviated as Cath., possibly for Catherine or similar name. * There was no Captain's sworn statement for this manifest which is one of many in a continuous listing of ships arriving at Galveston, Texas and listed together on a quarterly report. There is a name that appears to be Hinrichsen which is written in the same line as the arrival date, ship name, and port of departure. This could possibly be the captain's name. Correspondence added 3-7-2006, Passenger 7, JanischCarl Theo Janisch male, arrived in Galveston, Texas on the vessel Bark Alexander from Hambur Germany which left on March 4, 1850. His children settled in Harris County, Texas. They were Adelaide, Ludwig, Herrmann, and August. I would like more information if any is available from the Mecklenburg area. My email is mlarison@cox.net. Thanks
