Transcriber's Notes:
* This ship was listed in two places as sailing from Bremerhaven,
but in once place was written as Bremen.
* Captain's name, though illegible, was Sovill, according to
a researcher, Karen Reese. See her footnote for further information
on some of these passengers, who settled in Wisconsin.
#1 surname looks like Dufsolt or Dussott or variation.
#3 town is Bickenriede according to researcher, but seems to be
spelled Shickenrlide on original.
#13 first name looks like Trdu, though according to researcher,
this is Andr. Brand. He later married #14 on this list.
#15 surname could be Huffern or Kuffern. Town name could be Trabelsdorf.
#16 surname could be something like Lechken or Lechher or variation.
#17 surname could be Sendler or Lendler perhaps.
#18-19 surname could be Webling or Wehling.
#23 surname should be Gunther according to researcher, though is
spelled Gurther on manifest. See footnote from Karen Reese for
further information on Joseph Gunther, her ancestor. His origin
should be spelled Heuthen, not as found on original. He eventually
married passenger #7 on this list.
#26-40 town name changed spelling from Kefferhausen to Keffermann,
probably due to the list being copied by someone who could not
read the original manifest.
#29 first name possibly Ther. but cannot be certain.
#31 first name as found. Surname could be Shack.
#32 surname could be something like Schlotterhof.
#33-40 surname looks like Rickmeger or Bickmegen or Ricthmegen or variation.
#35 middle name is written Mas. but is probably meant to be Mar.
#41 according to researcher, this is Gottfr. Vondran. See her footnote.
#44 note in right side column: "died April 9th".
#48-49 note in right side column: "one born March 26th at sea". Uncertain
which family this child belonged to.
#55 town name was written in blank line between sets of passengers.
Probably was town for #55 as previous passengers all seemed to be
from Struth.
#56-59 surname could be written Hinpe, but is probably something else.
#60-69 town possibly spelled Silberhausen.
#66 first name looks like Slelore or Slelove or Helove perhaps.
#69 age probably 5, but could be a number after the 5.
#73 first name transcribed as found.
#74-76 name transcribed as found, but see footnote from Karen Reese.
#77-78 second word spelled Eust and Eusl. Possibly the person who originally
copied this mis-read it. Perhaps it was Ernst as previous passengers were,
or it meant Elis. for first name.
#79 surname could be Huck or Stuck.
#80-81 surname transcribed as found, but see footnote from Karen Reese.
#82-83 these children could have been with #77-78 as surname seems similar.
#84-90 see footnote from Karen Reese.
#85-87 Euisl was possibly mis-read for Elis.
#91 possibly Horling or Storling.
#92 middle word looks like Maus or Mans. Surname could be Shackelman or
Thackelman or Hackelman or Kackelman.
#93-98 surname could be written Hennenhaffen or Stennenhaffen.
#99 surname could be written Dotten or Dotter; occupation as found.
Correspondence and information on the ship, and a number of passengers,
including some of her ancestors, from
Karen Reese
"The Brig Tuskar was registered at Boston Feb. 18, 1845. Built at Medford
in 1831. 247 76/95 tons; length 104 ft., breadth 22 ft. 10 in.,
depth 11 ft. 5 in. Master: Samuel S. Sovill. Owners: Thomas Curtis 1.2,
James Harris 1/4, James Curtis 1/4, Boston. Two decks, two masts, square stern,
no galleries, a billethead." I found this information on the lists of ships in
the Boston Register in the Peabody Institute. Thought this information might
be helpful for the last name of the Master of the ship.
#3 through #14, the place is Bickenriede. I do have records from
St. Sebastian church, in Bickenriede for place of origin.
#13 I believe the name to be Andr. Brand. He married #14 Victoria Wiederhold
in Grant County, Wisconsin.
#23 I believe the name to be Joseph Gunther. The place is Heuthen. This is my
great-great grandfather and birth record proves him to be 26 at the time of
sailing. He married #7 on this same list.
#25 I believe the name to be Engelhard Junemann. He is a cousin to #23.
#41 I believe the name to be Gottfried Vondran. Records at St Jacob in Struth,
Germany verify the death of their child #44 John. George Vondran.
#74 I believe the name to be Joh. Aureden. This family lived in Grant County,
and Lafayette County, WI. Information matches this family data.
#80-#83 I believe the name to be Joseph Weber. I have proof from St. Martin
in Steinbach for this family data.
#84-#90 I believe the name to be Joachim Hollenbach. This is another family
living in Grant Co, WI and data matches this family.
Correspondence 03/17/2004 passengers #74-76 Aureden/Hevieden
#74 - 76 One of our family names is Aureden. I believe these passengers
are related to Hienrick Aureden. I believe Hienrick Aureden & John were brothers.
However I cannot find the date of Hienrick's 1st arival. I do know he was born in
Heilgenstadt, Thuringer and received a badge of Honor, Prussian Order of
Hohenzollern, in the war in Baden 1847 to 1851.
If anyone is researching this name, please contact
