Ship Tuisko
I. Ad. Dannemann, Master of the Ship Tuisko do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Ship Tuisko at Bremen from which port said Ship has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. My gr-gr-gr-grandparents, Franz and Anna (Pistol) Patzner and their
family left the village of Tempelfeld near Breslau, Schlesien, Prussia,
and immigrated to the U.S. aboard the Tuisko in 1856. (This region is now
part of Poland; Tempelfeld has been renamed Owczary and Breslau is Wroclaw.)
They settled in the lead mining area of Potosi, Grant County, Wisconsin,
though none were miners. Franz was a tailor; his sons became farmers. The
eldest son, my gr-gr-grandfather, Charles (Carl) married Anna Marie Flesch.
They purchased a farm near Fennimore, Wisconsin. Franz and Anna, sons
Joseph (Joh Jos) and Franz, and daughter Clara relocated to Buffalo County,
near Fountain City, Wisconsin, in the 1860s. Franz later moved to Iowa,
and, eventually, it is believed to the Tacoma, Washington area. Both Joseph
and Franz served in the Union Army during the Civil War. Joseph's first
marriage was to Margaretha Baier; Franz's to Anna Baier. Clara married
Anton Baures. The youngest daughter, Theresa Marie (listed here as Marie)
remained in Potosi, marrying Joseph Guenther. Nancy Scott
