Transcriber's Notes:
* The use of an * indicates an omission or error made by the original
recorder.
* The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read, due to
quality of original document.
* #2 First name most probably James, Pittsburg spelled the same throughout
manifest
* #3 Under occupation "stand at the Furnace"
* #4 & #5 This word appears to be Bridgewater, however the letters were cut
off in filming
* #7 Letter looks like either an e or d
* #8 The third could be an a or u, the fourth letter looks like a
letters six and seven are unreadable
* #12 The second letter may be an a or o, the third letter swings upward
and may be an l. There may even be another letter at the end that was
completely unreadable because of smearing
* #14 This name is repeated and under the column Age(years) there is a
diagonal hash mark / and what appears to be a very tiny letter or number
above the hash mark
* #15-17 There is a parenthesis in the last column of the manifest with the
word "on???" the rest of the wording is cut off, I believe this is
indicating one family
* #18-21 Same as explained above (15-17)so 23 the first letter appears
to be an S but is slightly smaller at the bottom loop than any of the
other S letters in this manifest, the last two letters look like g (with
loop below line) and an e with tail turning upward, I almost thought
first name could be Dodge
* #31 May be New York but could make out any York word
* #32 The first word may be Coal but was unreadable
* #34-35 Same as explained above (15-17)
* #36 The last name appears to have at least two loops of letters visible
above the line spaced out in the name like an l
* #38 The first name may be John as there appears to be a loop where the h
would be and the last letter has a hump and ends in an upward motion, the
third letter in the last name has a loop above the line and could be an h or l
* #39-42 Same as explained above (15-17), also the names are very
unreadable with no clues to what the other letters may be
* #44 Unreadable
* #46-47 Same as explained above (15-17), the fourth letter could be an l
or b as there is a visible loop above the line
* #48 This occupation may be Warehouseman, cannot read first part
* #49-51 Same as explained above (15-17), also the first letter appears to
be a B as the writer's R's are not like this letter
& #52 The first letter could be an S as it has a bottom loop similar to the
other capital S's, the third letter may be an i or e followed by an n or
r. The sixth letter has a closed loop above the line and could be a d.
This name may be Sheridan
* #53 The last name may begin with an M, N or H as the beginning upswing of
the letter is similar to how the other M's and H's start
* #54 This last name appears to begin with an R however the top part of the
letter is faded, the second letter may be an e or i but the loop appears
closed
* #56 The first word appears to be Sigar as the S is plainly visible. The
second word looks like it starts with either a W or M and ends with er.
Have seen Sigar Maker spelled this way on other manifests.
* #57 The country from may be Scotland, the name is unreadable but there
appears to be another line of writing just below this name
National Archives and Records Administration, Film M237, Reel 48.
