Transcriber's notes:
? represents letters or words that could not be read accurately.
The captain's surname, Hesfe, could be the old style of writing the name
Hesse. The person recording the names was not consistent in his manner of
writing the double s. Sometimes it was written as ss and sometimes as sf
or fs.
There were no deaths on this voyage. I have eliminated the Death column to
save space.
There was one birth on this voyage - passenger 27.
All passengers occupied the Steerage part of the vessel. There were no
Cabin passengers so I have eliminated this column.
Some of the cities the passengers intended to inhabit are not common to all
researchers so I've researched and these are the U.S. states and one Canadian
province these cities are listed in at the present time:
Colonia - New Jersey.
Indianola - California, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Mississippi,
Pennsylvania, Nebraska, Texas, Utah, Washington.
Clintonville - Alabama, Connecticut, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania,
Wisconsin, West Virginia.
Port Colborne - Ontario Province, Canada.
The following notes are listed by passenger number:
5 through 8 B?rhm?yer - The first letter in question appears to fall below
the line although it may just be a stray mark. The second letter in
question is either A or E.
27 Philipp Walther - There is a notation in the Death column stating that
he was born May 1880.
46 through 50 Weifs - This surname could be written in the old style and
the name could be Weiss.
62 and 63 We??zorek - There are ink smears on these letters and they are
too difficult to read.
131 Ze?er - The name is either Zener or Zeuer.
133 Bus?hhorn - Because of an ink spot, I can't decipher this letter but it
doesn't fall below the line or extend high above the line.
139 ?ausch - The name is either Bausch or Rausch.
206 Charlote Hein - Her age is either 60 or 61.
245 through 248 Lau? - This letter is sloppily written but I believe the name
could be Laut.
263 through 266 Fidella?k - The letter in question doesn't fall below the
line or extend high above the line.
271 Johann Bartell?r - The name is either Barteller or Bartellor.
280 Wilhelm ?ihm - It looks like one letter was written over another, making
it impossible to decipher accurately.
322 through 324 G?tzke - There is a black mark just above the letter in question.
The name is either Gatzke, Gotzke, or Gutzke.
345 Martin Ro?el - The name is either Robel or Rotel.
National Archives and Records Administration, Film M237, Reel 426, List 554.
