SS Pavonia
I, William H P. Harris, Master of the Steam Ship "Pavonia" do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York is a full and perfect List of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at Liverpool and Queenstown from which port the said vessel has now arrived, and that on the said list are truly designated the age, sex, and calling of each of the said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of the citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that the said List or Manifest truly sets for the number of the said passengers who have died on the said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as it can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. So help me God. (Signed) W H P Harris Sworn to at New York this 30 day of May 1883 Before me (illegible)
List or Manifest of all the Passengers taken on board the S.S. Pavonia whereof *, is master, from *, burthen * tons.
Columns represent Names, Age (Years, Mths.), Sex, Calling, the Country of which they are citizens, Intended Destination or Location, Location of Compartment or Space Occupied, Number of Pieces of Baggage, Transient, or in Transit, or intending prolongued sojourn. Since only one death appears to have occurred on the voyage, the column Date and Cause of Death has been omitted. Exception is noted below. All passengers indicated that they were coming to America, all were classified as steerage, all carried one piece of baggage, and all were reported as sojourning. Consequently, those columns have been omitted also.

Transcriber's Notes
There are no diacritical marks used on this list.
* Captain's name is omitted.
* Port of departure is omitted.
* Tonnage is not reported.
5 Francis Jones - only child given the designation "inft" in column for
age in years.
35 Morris Rabinovets - very odd name for a Welshman!
39 From passenger 39 onwards, f and m are used for gender, instead of female
and male being spelled out.
54 Michael Walpole - there is a squiggle through the age; it could be 20 or
26.
61 through 65 - surname Callon; there is a very faint horizontal mark above
the o, possibly meant to be the cross on a t. If that is the case, the name
may be Calton/Colton.
79 John Roy - age appears to have been written over; either 53 or 33.
89 Bridget Ford - There is a very distinct check mark in the column Date and
Cause of Death but no date is given.
113 Po?oon - no guesses as to this letter.
116 Heliva H???akson - first name is definitely Heliva, dotted i can be seen
clearly; surname might be Hennakson.
123 Bettz Johnson - I suspect this is a phonetic rendering of Betsy.
124 Alfred Svenson - actual entry reads "Alfred do (for ditto) Svenson,
which would make the full name read Alfred Johnson Svenson, not a usual
Swedish naming practice. It's possible the ditto is in error.
129 Victor Urstin - surname could be Wistin.
130 Johan Bj??ae - no guesses as to missing letters.
164 Gustabe Guttke - Although Gustave would be the expected spelling, this
is very clearly written with a b instead of a v. In addition, this entry is
listed as female.
166 Lina Gu?serind - appears to be Gusserind
170 Martin Kristensen's occupation is spelled "choemaker."
177 Ole Aklanguigen - it is very difficult to distinguish between the
writer's n's and u's in this and in several other entries. This name could
be transcribed completely incorrectly.
181 Anna Boh??sch - Surname might be Bohunsch; difficulty distinguishing
between u and n, noted above.
228 Ernst Henfke - there is a line through the age; it appears to be 34, but
could be 24, or even 37.
229, 230, and 231 - Although listed as Hungarian, Sven Person, Kjirste
Persdotter and Fred Persson certainly sound Swedish. In the entry
immediately following, Nils Persson is listed as Swedish.
269 Anton Mach??? - could be Machauer
297 Although Edwin Bibby is listed as a male, his status is given as
Spinster. This appears to be in error, as this title is customarily
reserved for females, and is applied exclusively to females on this list.
