The reader can fill in the blanks with little difficulty, but this is an attempt to produce a true copy, so I have not done so. * "l" is writ small and in superscript--an abbreviation of the name Daniel * The person who copied this list was very rigourous about some things. female is never capitalized, Male is always capitalized. Males, no matter what their ages are classed as Labourers. This is indicated on the original by the use of double tally marks ". The recorder was at first quite rigorous about writing out names in full, but as the list goes on, we see the use of Do, meaning ditto, creeping in. * the listmaker used the abbreviation Do. on the wife's surname * in the deaths column there is a notation at the top of page two in the column aligned with Mathew Gaffney's name. 194 with a 2 slightly below and to the right. A similar notation appears at the top right of page three, a 19, next to the name of 10 year old Mary Sheridan. I do not believe that these numerals indicate that the persons died, Instead, I believe they refer to the pagination of the manifest, which is #194 in the record of the original listmaker. * I believe this should read "infant" Correspondence 08/24/2004 passengers #34, 35, 37 & 38 Devitt John [James] and his family settled in Chicago, Ill, then Springfield, Ill. 1853-54 they settle in Lakeville TWP, Dakota Co., MN. 1875 they again moved with the railroad to Fargo where their son, Patt, had made a home for them after the Civil War. Patt was also a founding father of Fargo. James d.1890 and Bridget d.1892 in Fargo, Cass Co., ND. Unknown who Michael and Mary Devitt are. All their children's names are: John, Patt, Ann, Margaret, Bridget, James, Michael, Mary, William, George, Andrew. Jody Tesch Sorenson, Everson, WA
