Correspondence 05/10/02 passengers #363-365 & 567-573
Thank you very much for transcribing this manifest. Here is some
additional information about passengers #363-365, 544, and 567-573 that may
be helpful to other families. There must have been lots of people bound
for Pittsburgh, but I do not recognize any names except Busch and Sauer.
#363, Carl Dumsky (1853-1933) was probably from Peusenhof, northeast of
Bamberg. See Paul Dumsky (1805-1869) and Anna Lieb in WorldConnect at
and in Die Dorfer der Pfarrei Kirchschletten (search
"Gunzelmann and Peusenhof"). Carl lived at 65 Pius St and at 1 Monastery
Ave, worked for the city and for St. Michael's Church, and was buried as
Carl Dunsky. His sons changed their names to Dunsky or Dunsey.
#364, his wife, was Anna Maria Sommer (1855-1929), sister of #567, Johann
Sommer.
#365, daughter Margaret (1881-1956?); married Adam Martine abt 1903, 7
children.
Other children of Carl and Anna Dumsky were baptized at St. Michael's, and
their godparents included several other Sommer families besides Johann's.
Andrew Dumsky (1883-1925?), died "back East."
Mary Dumsky (1884-1919) married John Flanigan abt 1908, 5 children.
Charles Dumsky b. 7 Feb 1887, died as an infant.
George Dunsey (1888-1970) m. Victoria ?? abt 1912, 8 children..
John A Dunsky (1891-1975) m. Anna E Schnoes (1894-1971) 1914, 5 children.
Charles J Dunsey (1894-1972). No info yet.
William J Dunsey (1898-1980) m. Mary Flanigan (1892-1975) 1920. (see
WorldConnect).
Lawrence Dunsey (1901-1990) m. Helen ??; no children.
#544, Michael Sommer may not be related to Johann Sommer, not in 1900 PA
census.
#567, Johann Sommer (1844-1900) lived on 18th Street in Dec 1881 and at 18
St. Paul Street in 1900. No exact origin for the Sommers yet, but a
Margaret Sommer (1850-1939), wife of Christopher Diethorn from Steinfeld
near Stadelhofen, lived at 16 St. Paul St and was probably Johann's sister.
#568, Kunigunde (Benlein) Sommer (1844-1917) went by the name of
"Margaret."
#569, Kunigunde "Julie", their daughter, m. Bernard Rebholz 30 Apr 1889.
#570, Johann, pressman in 1910.
#571, Andreas Sommer, plumber in 1910. .
