The list of Columns on Canadian Ship lists from this time were quite
lengthy. To determine the age and sex of the passenger there were three
groupings of columns.
The first was headed "Age of each Adult 12 yeards and upwards" The
sub-columns were Married and Single which each had further subcolumns
for Male or Female.
The second was headed "Children between 1 & 12 Years with the
sub-column Male or Female.
The third was "Infants" with the sub-column Male or Female.
To determine the country of origin there was four main columns, each with
two sets of subcolumns. The first set of columns was the country itself,
either English, Irish, Scotch or Foreigner. These columns each had the
same set of sub-columns, dealing with the age of the passenger, was
divided into three columns, Adults, Between 1 and 12 and Infants.
Each sub-column was the further divided into Male or Female.
