Brig Meridian

Havre de Grace, France to Edgartown, Massachusetts
9 September 1830

DISTRICT OF EDGARTOWN PORT OF EDGARTOWN
I, Mark Springer do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear, that the within REPORT and LIST, subscribed with my name and now delivered by me to the Collector of the district of Edgartown, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, the names, age, sex and occupation of all the passengers, together with the name of the country to which they severally belong, and that of which they intend to become inhabitants, which were on board the Brig Meridian whereof I am at present master, at the time of her sailing from the port of Havre de Grace or which have at any time since been taken on board the said vessel. And I do likewise swear, that all matters whatsoever in said report and list expressed, are, to the best of my knowledge and belief, just and true. SO HELP ME GOD. (Signed) Mark Springer. Sworn to before me, this ninth day of September 1830, (signed) H. C. Worth, D. COLLECTOR.
REPORT AND LIST of the Passengers taken on board the Brig Meridian of Hallowell whereof Mark Springer is Master, burthen 292 tons and 8/95ths of a ton, bound from the Port of Havre de Grace for Baltimore.*
Columns represent: name, age, sex, occupation, country to which they belong, country of which they intend to become inhabitants, died on the voyage. All the passengers were from France and all intended to become citizens of the United States, so those columns will be eliminated here. (It seems that the original writer of the manifest inverted those columns. He marked that they were all from the United States and intended to become citizens of France. It is assumed that was incorrect.)

Transcriber's Notes:

 * The ship was originally bound for Baltimore but docked at Edgartown
for some reason. This was a very difficult list to decipher. Can only
think it was written by someone who could not understand the names
he was being asked to write.
#8 note in right column states: "Joanah, infant, ? months." Surname was not
written after Joanah but the information was in line for passenger #2,
so probably the child of Maria Kremer. Possibly 3 months old, probably
died on the voyage. Uncertain if male or female, was not included in the
left hand list of passengers on the original, but has been incorporated
    into the list here.
#10-16 surname something like Messhline, but not at all certain.
#11 her age possibly 40, but on a damaged area.
#17-23 surname possibly begins with Z or Y, something like Zwingerly or
    Zwinzerly.
#24-30 surname for first 2 looks like Sings or Singt; not certain if the
children had the same last name or if Ferdera was to be their surname.
#31 name looks like Mester, not sure if it is first or last name.
#32-36 surname something like Naug or Nauy.
#37 surname Spreiger or Spruger; letters in first name illegible.
#49-52 surname looks like Sutts or Suttr, Jutts or Juttr, or Lutts or Luttr,
but not certain if that was all to the name, as there was a wavy line after
    those letters.
#54-58 only 3 or 4 letters, something like Nou or Noll.
#60-66 surname looks like Seimbert or Lambert.
#67 surname possibly Chardemfeur.
#68 surname something like Moussleur or Moufleur.
#72 middle name looks like evedes, no capital.
#73 surname something like Rasfrarnir or Rassrarnir.
#74 surname looks like Sidgfriech.
#75-79 surname Kossfeler or Kopfeler.
#81 surname looks like Nauerrey.
#82 after Noon is a wavy line, not sure if only part of surname was written.
#83 surname looks like Ljnonryf?suyl or L?norryf?ayl.
#89 marked female, but perhaps should be male.
#92 cannot read gender, was over-written.
#94 surname looks like How or Hou with wavy line after, not sure if all of
    name was written.
#95 only the word Ledig with wavy line after; the word means single in German,
uncertain if it is a surname.
#97-102 surname probably Grimmer.
#103-109 surname looks like Sutterer or Lutterer.
#111-115 letter in question could be a, but perhaps should be s.
#116 looks like Schrerrier.
