Transcriber's Notes (Contributed Notes follow):
According to the calculations of the person who wrote the list,
there should have been 147 passengers, but there were in fact only
145 listed. On the first page, for the first group, it was bracketed
as "8 persons" but there were only 7 listed. There may have been
another with that group whose name was not listed. Also on the last
page, there were only 8 passengers listed, but there seem to have
been 9 counted.
* Ship broker's name ended in a letter which extends above mid-point.
#1 there may have been one more person with this group, as it was
bracketed as "8 persons."
#8 probably a, possibly r.
#20-22 either s or r in question.
#23 seems to be n, but could be r.
#26 age is 24 or 29.
#30-33 town was spelled Northrup for 1st two passengers, and Northup
for the others.
#34 not sure how many letters could be there. None of the letters
extended above mid-point or below the line.
First letter(s) could be ei or u. Then perhaps n.
#40 letter is P or T.
#41-42 letters could be iv or rv or w.
#43 first name looks like Elias, but may be Elisa.
#44-50 about 7 or 8 more letters, none extend above mid-point or
below the line; possibly 2 i's, but really impossible to read.
#51-52 name looks like Turnann or Tumann.
#54 either Hein or Herm.
#56 probably an abbreviation, 2 more letters after M.
Last one extends above mid-point.
#59 town begins with L or S.
#60 letter does not extend above mid-point. Could be c or r.
#63 first letter could be v or r. Second could be s or c.
#64 first name and occupation spelled as found.
#67 second last letter does not extend above mid-point.
Last letter seems to extend above mid-point.
#78 first name letters do not extend above mid-point.
#78-79 letter in surname either t or l.
#78-81 letters in town name probably ec, but possibly ie or ei.
#82 first name as found.
#82-84 probably should be Mettingen, but last 3 letters look like -man.
#85 letter in surname looks like J.
#86 same as #82-84. Middle name abbreviation looks like Jer or Jos or Jes.
#88 surname seems to have been over-written. Letters could be ff or ss,
but possibly were over-written with lf or lt. Cannot be certain which
letters were written over the others. Could be Nolte.
#89 This is probably the same Henry Kruse whose naturalization record,
from St. Charles County, Missouri, states that he arrived in Richmond
from Bremen, in September of 1837. His declaration of intent was
recorded as 11 May 1840, in the Circuit Court of St. Charles, Missouri,
Record Book D, page 484.
#91 surname letter could be i or u. Town name letters could be o or u, or

#107 no c in surname, though there was in #105.
#108 first letter could be a, next letter extends below the line.
#115-116 letters do not extend above the mid-point. Seems to be longer
than the town for #119-120.

Contributed Notes:
Descendants of passengers #25-28 and #135-136 have contacted the transcriber.
Their information follows:
* #25-28 The Borgman Family history said there were 5 Borgman brothers
that traveled from Kingdom of Hannover, Prussia (now Germany) in the
late 1830s. They did not all emigrate together. Gerhd was reportedly the
first of the Borgmans to arrive in America, with the other brothers
coming within a few years. This is now evidenced in this Ship record
that he (Gerhd, called Garrett in America, my GG-Grandfather) sailed with
his wife, Lucy Margaret ("Deaker" per family records, might be
Diarker or Dieker or Dearker), who was about 24 or 25.
Traveling with them is a son #27, age 16 years, which cannot be correct
based on the parents' ages here and in family records. This is possibly
his brother (age would be correct), or his son and the age was recorded
wrong. They are traveling with a daughter, Caroline, for which I have no
record right now. It might be his brother Nicolaus' daughter who they
brought with them. They supposedly belonged to the Diocese of Osnabruck.
To date, I have not located emigration records for his other brothers
(Nicholaus; John; Herman; and Henry), or a sister who emigrated and
reportedly married a "Mr. Fibben" and resided in Cold Water, Ohio. Any
information on these other siblings (at least one brother remained in
Ankum) would be greatly appreciated.
Sailing with Gerhd and Lucy Margaret is her sister, Catherine and her
husband Gerhd Ahrens (as passengers #135-136). Both families resided in
Cumberland, Maryland area for several years, and then emigrated to
Kingwood area, Preston County, Virginia (now West Virginia). Also looking
for information on GREASER, KORTE, RICKELMAN & WESLING families (from
Ankum area) that formed part of what ended up being called the "German
Settlement" about 3 miles south of Kingwood, WV. They built a log Roman
Catholic Church (St.Joseph's) and had quarterly visits from the Clergy
in Cumberland, Maryland.

* #135-136 Another researcher is descended from Catherine Ahrens,
the sister of Lucy Margaret #26 above and has provided her family
information:
Gerhd Ahrens (or Arns from family records and census, 1809-1895)
and Catharine Ahrens (before 1813-1873) were both from Hanover, Germany.
They are my g-g-Grandparents. Lucy Margaret Borgman #26 and Catharine
Ahrens #136 were sisters. Maiden name was either Deaker or Dearker
or Diaker or something similar.
The Ahrens or Arns bore children in Cumberland, Maryland and Virginia
(now West Virginia). In a book, they were mentioned as being founding
members in 1845 of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church near Kingwood.
The area was nicknamed the "German Settlement". As more Germans entered
the area the families intermarried amongst each other. In my searching
of these names the families all appear to be related in the following
generations.
The Arns children were:
Mary Arns (1840 MD - >1914). She married a Mr. Martin and lived in the
Pittsburgh, PA area.
Caroline Arns (before 1845-?)
Sarah Elliretta Arns (1844 Maryland? - 1926) married Henry Phillip Barlow
(1845-1892). They are my great-grandparents. Henry's father was John
Heinrich (1809) and his mother Mary Catherine Eilermann (or Eilemoun,
b. 1812) born in Hanover, Germany, came to Kingwood area around 1850.
The Ahrens/Barlow marriage produced 7 children to live and raise families.
These children married into the Wesling, Trickett, Lange, Shultz
(or Shoulte or Shoulte), McKenzie, Korte, Rehe and Masch (or Mask) families.
In the following generation they married into other local families too
many to list. There are still some in the Kingwood area.
Catharine M. Arns (1847-1915) married Ferdinand Guth (1844-1902) from
Wirtenburg, Germany. They remained in the area till about 1890 and then
moved on to Grafton, Taylor, West Virginia. Their children married into
the Rauscher, Gilmore, Williams, Riggs, Cook, Pendergast, Tucker, and
McEldowney families.
Charles Clemens Arns (1856-?): The only information I have on him so far
is that he was living with Mary Arns (his sister) in the 1880 census in
Grafton, Taylor, West Virginia.
Garrett Arns' sister Anna Maria Arns (1805-1882) married Garrett
(Gerhard or Gerard) Heinrich (Henry) Korte (1801-1870).
After reading this, if you believe you are a descendant of the Arns or
Ahrens, Korte or Barlow families or have a connection to other St. Joseph's
Church names, please don't hesitate to contact me at USHeavyD@aol.com
Sunset, who is also related to the Borgmans #25-28, has a wonderful website.
Through her site you can easily see most of the family names.
Correspondence 4/5/01 passenger #103 Kracke
My great-great-grandfather is Heinrich Frederic Ellerd Kracke, who
was born in Hoya, Germany 22 March 1813. He married Johanna Katrina
Maria Lispet Mahler, born 22 September 1814. He lived in Henrico County,
Virginia in 1850 & 1860 census. In 1870 he was in Surry County, Virginia.
Occupation: farmer.
Their 8 children were:
Elionora Rebeca b. 22 October 1840; Johann Joseph Henrich (John
Henry) b. 20 November 1843; Maria Wilhelmine Josephine b. 7 July 1845;
Friedrich Wilhelm b. 10 December 1847; Luise Henriette b. 8 May 1849
and d. 25 July 1854; Luis Christian b. 19 July 1852; Henriette Josephine
b. 22 May 1856; Emma Augusta b. 9 March 1860 (my great-grandmother).
Heinrich Kracke died in Richmond, Virginia 8 April 1887. If anyone else
is researching this family, please contact Betty German.
