95 Saloon Passengers with about 341 Pieces Baggage
189 Second Cabin Passengers with about 306 pieces Baggage
654 Steerage Passengers with about 811 Pieces Baggage
[Totals for passengers and baggage, and a note about those
"Not taken" have been added, but are unreadable because they
are at the bottom of the page and were partly cut off during
microfilming].
Transcriber's Notes:
*An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder,
not the transcriber. The ? indicates letters or words that cannot be read
due to the quality of the original document.
*Passengers 751-843 were all Second Cabin passengers, and were originally
numbered 97-189; in accordance with ISTG practice, I have re-numbered
them to be continuous with the preceding numbering. Passengers 844-940
were "Saloon" passengers, and were originally numbered 1-95.
*The 7th column(native country), 9th (State of passengers other than
Cabin, whether Citizens of the United States), 11th (Location of
compartment or space occupied forward, amidships, or aft) and 14th
(Date of Death and Cause of Death)have all been omitted, since they
were blank.
761 The middle initial could be a "C" and is connected to the "C" of the
surname.
762 Last letter(s) of first name blurred.
764 Last name could be Sadlier, Sadliss, or Sadlin.
788 Middle name could be "Geo".
796 First name appears to be a capital "H" connected to a capital "E"
followed by a period.
800 First name badly blurred, but could be "Charles"; middle initial
could be "C" or "E"; last name could be Lousks or Lensks
801 First name badly blurred. The following columns are at the bottom of
the page and partially cut off in the process of microfilming. The
occupation might be "Draper"; I am fairly sure he was Russian, and
transient, but the number of pieces of baggage could have been either 2
or 3.
803 A line has been drawn through this nme and the information about the
person. A note at the bottom of the Second Cabin Passengers list says
"1/0 Not Taken"; this means that one male was "not taken" which I assume
means he was not on board ship.
820 First name could be Cusia or Cissia.
844 Last name could be Sieberman or Suberman.
847 A line has been drawn through this name.See Note 803.
850 This is apparently the famous American artist Frederick Remington
(1861-1909). The entry for him in the Encyclopedi Americana (v. 23,
p. 378, 1995)begins: "Frederic Remington, American painter, sculptor,
and writer, who is regarded as possibly the leading documentary artist
of the American West..." There are at least two web pages with brief
biographies and lists of books about him:
http://www.spanam.simplenet.com/remington.htm
http://kermit.traverse.com/people/dot/remington.html
His first name is spelled "Frederick" in some places(as abbreviated on
this list), and "Fredric" in others.
851 Surname is preceded by a capital D., followed by 2 letters which
could be "bc" or "De." The surname itself could be Cerkey.
863 A line is drawn through the name, probably meaning "not taken".
See Note 803.
868 Last name could be Drew or Druv.
877 Last name unreadable.
884 Last name could be Ramsden, Rawsden, Ramsdin, or Rawsdin.
886 First name could be Marcus or Marius. Third letter of surname could
be ,r, or s:Vert, Vest, or Veat.
893 At bottom of page, almost completely cut off by microfilming. What
little can be seen of the surname suggests that it could be the husband of
#894.
895 A line has been drawn through the name and following columns (see
Note for 803).
906-908 In the original numbering, #906 is #62 among the Saloon class;
the numbers for Hugo Schroeder and Frederick Wasson are unclear, but are
followed by #64; an arrow is drawn pointing from Wasson's name to the age
(47) of Hugo Schroeder, above. There are no separate columns of
information for Wasson; rather, the names of Schroeder and Wasson are
crowded together in such a way that the information about occupation,
etc., seems to apply to both names. The three names(Ludwig, Schroeder,
and Wasson) are bracketed together. I don't know what
all this means. The occupation "President" must refer to the presidency
of a company, since in 1894 the President of the USA was Grover Cleveland.
909-910 Last name could be Silsbee or Silsbu.
914 Both the gender and occupation must be mistaken. Probably should be
female, wife!
915 Last name could be Ortweber or Ortwuber.
918 Country is probably West Indies but is written as West India.
923-24 A line is drawn through both names. Probably means "Not taken" (see
note for #803)
929 "MP" possibly stands for "Member of Parliament".
930 Surname could be Penketh.
932 Last name could be Wachtmeister or Wachtmuster.
938 Last name could be Wood or Word. Citizenship probably should be "U.S.",
not "New York".
