I, Horatio McKay, Master of the R.M.S. "Lucania" do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of Customs of the District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board said vessel at Liverpool from which port or ports the said vessel has now arrived, and that on said list is truly designated the age, sex, calling, or occupation, the port of embarkation, the number of pieces of baggage, of all the passengers, the date and cause of death of any such passengers who may have died on the voyage and also a statement, so far as it can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each immigrant passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country, and also, in regard to Cabin passengers, the country of which they are citizens, and of passengers other than cabin passengers, their native country, their intended destination or location in the United States, and whether they are citizens of the United States or not, and the location of the compartment or space occupied by each, as required by the Passenger Act of 1882 and the Regulations of the Secretary of the Treasury. The ? indicates letters or words that cannot be read due to the quality of the original document. The preceding 250 passengers were all steerage passengers, so the column "Country of which they are Citizens" (to be used for cabin passengers only) has been omitted. I have also omitted the "Port of Embarkation" column, since all embarked from Liverpool, and the "Date and Cause of Death" column, since it only contained a running tally of the passengers according to whether they were male, female, or U.S. citizens. The column for "Transient, in Transit, or intending protracted sojurn" has also been omitted, since in all cases the passengers were intending a "Pro Soj." 263 Surname could be Dingerto or Dingerts 266-267 Surname could be Grevutsen. Though 266 and 267 appear to be the same name, it is unusual for the name to be written out twice instead of using a ditto mark after the first time, and the first part of the name is written differently in 267; the first letter looks more like a Q and the second something like a u. 267 First name could be Mastrias 275 First name could be Tilda or Hilda 278 Middle letters of first name not clear; cannot even be sure of how many; however, none extend above or below the line 281 Last name could be Smith or Swist 290-92 Third letter of last name could be "n" or "u"; letters after "l" could be "in", "en", or "ire": Rouholin, Rouholen, Runholen, Ronholen 292 Middle letters of first name difficult to read. None of them extend above the line and all could be read as "n", "u", "w" or "e". 294 Last part of lst name appears to have been erased by water. 299 Last name could be Indrearne or Judrearne. Destination could be "Lennox". 327 Last name could be Suloneln or Sulosien. 329 First name unreadable. None of the letters extend above or below the line. 336 Word before "Superior" in destination has been so blurred that it is unreadable. 337-338 Last name of 337 could be Deuhab or Denhab. Destination for 337-338 may be Leesburg or Lettburg. 340-341 First name could be Chage or Chaze. 342 Three letters of first name unreadable, but none extend above or below the line. 348-49 Destination could be Kulm, Kulin, or Kuliss. 350 Dakota is definitely the destination of the 11mo.-old child, not same as the parents. Probably an error. 351-352 Last name could be Knecht or Knucht. 361 Name seems to be female, so this may be an error on recorder's part. 380 First name could be Sussfarssa 382-84 Last name could be Bieh or Bich 391 Last several letters of first name not clear, and cannot be sure how many letters there are, but none of them extend above or below the line. 396 Last 3 letters of first name illegible; do not extend above or below the line. 401 May be an error. A 19-year-old is not usually labeled as a "child". 411 Last name could be Schonbein or Schonbeiss. 436 Possible umlaut over the "u" in surname 438 Last 4-5 letters of first name illegible, but none extend above or below line.Could be Tilliman or Tillimore 441 Last name could be Hein or Heiss. 442 Last name could be Speicher, Spueher, or Speuher. 446 First name could be Drnuessus, or Dramlussus. 461-466 Last name could be Luisz. 465 First name blurred; and "wife" may be an error in the original, since age is clearly just 12. 467-469 Last name could be Kiltter or Kittler. 472 Last 2 letters of first name not clear; 6th letter could be n, or u. 477 First name could be Isella or Gell. 482 First name could be Dune or Dulle 492 First name could be Janne; none of the letters after "J" extend above or below the line.
