Bark Jenny
There was no sworn statement on this list: Only the following: (The list has the following stamped on the title page: "Filmed because of poor condition of original"
List or Manifest of all the Passengers taken on board the Bark Jenny whereof A. H. Hendil is Master, from Bremen, burthen 70 Tons
Columns represent: passengers' names, age, sex, country of origin. Since all passengers intended to become U.S. citizens and there were no deaths on the voyage, these columns were omitted from this list. There were no births listed on this manifest; however, the diary appended to this list indicates that a woman gave birth enroute. Also, only passengers # 1-42 had states indicated for their destinations, #s 43-370 simply received the indication U.S; thus, from passenger 43 on the destination column is omitted.

Transcriber's notes:
* Quesion marks indicate letters that are indecipherable.
* The original listing was not numbered--transcriber has added the numbering.
* The writer of this list uses abbreviations but never uses a "." to indicate
the same--the abbreviated names and words are transcribed exactly as seen in
the manuscript. He is also not consistent in abbreviations for the
countries of origin, i.e. Prussia, Preus, Pruss, or just Pr. or for laborer:
lab, labr., labourer.
* There is also a notable lack of umlauts over vowels in names that would
normally have them.
Passengers:
# 4 first letter of surname doesn't match any other usage here--could be
T, Y, J or S.
# 9 first given name indeciperable
# 32 surname could be Wolco or Woko
# 36 occupation for woman, farmer--probably belongs with the previoius
entry.
# 54 and #57 occupation seems to be harssmer or Harfmer. In #54 entry it is
enclosed in quotation marks and not capitalized. In #57 it is capitalized.
# 62 surname has an umlaut over the "u"
#63-67 occupation for #63 "brasmaker" is listed by ditto marks for #s 64-67.
# 81-83 surname could be Feymack
#115-118 country of origin difficult to determine: abbreviation looks like
Peu or Pen or perhaps the scribe meant to write Preu for Preussen (Prussia)
#129 passenger, Maria (Janssen) Jacobs wrote a short summary of the voyage of this
ship, which is appended to this list. She and her husband, Wilke Jacobs, settled
near Sterling, Illinois. He was subsequently tusked by a boar and died in 1871.
Maria then moved to Carroll County, Iowa with her brother, Tobe Janssen
(great-grandfather of Norma Janssen Berns, Carroll). Her second marriage to Gerd
Janssen Eilts (brother of the great-grandfather of the transcriber of this list)
19 Sep 1873, was one of the first marriages recorded in Carroll County. Maria died
in 1929.
#151 surname could be Strufs
#158 surname could be Bagcol
#159 gender seems incorrect for this passenger
#172-175 surname probably is Adams)
#189 given name could be Gustav
#249 surname could be Putzhau
#306 surname could be Wetkotu
#320 surname could be Frina
#351 given name is abbreviated/probably should be Wilhelmine
#353-360 surname could be Cercowsky
#364 surname difficult to decipher because of crease in original manuscript,
could be Theonzsky
#365 name indecipehrable because of crease in original paper
Correspondence 9/12/00 Passengers 187-190
I found my great grandfather and part of his first family. They
are passengers 187-190. Michael, Anna Louise, Gustave, and Martin KRENZ.
Line 188-Anna Louise was 30 years old. Line 189-The sons name was Gustav
as you suspected.
They came to Reynolds, Indiana and bought land to farm. Eventually
Michael and Anna Louise had 8 children, including 2 that had died before
they came to the USA. When Anna Louise died in 1874, Michael eventually
remarried a woman with one child. His second wife's name was Anna Dorothea
BRANDT. They had 8 more children for a grand total of 17 children in all.
If you need more infor, I'll be glad to help if I can.
Mary (KRENTZ) Lee
Correspondence 03/23/2004 passengers #86-91
My great great great grandmother, Theresa Wager is passenger # 86 of the
ships manifest for the Bark Jenny. Passengers 87-91 are her
children,Cornelia 20, Gebhardt 16, Michael 10, Hubert 7, and Euphemia 5 ;
Her husband, Protasius Wager and son John (my gr gr grandfather) and a dau.
Josephine arrived in U.S. abt 1865. They lived in Ohio for a few years and
eventually settled in northwestern PA. If anyone has a connection to this
family please contact me. Kathy (Erie, PA)
Correspondence added 5-15-2006, Gerdes and Ansmink
Entries 35 through 41 are known relatives.
They are from Pogum, Ostrfriesland and went to, settled and
farmed in Woodford County, Illinois. Parents Dirk & Gretje
are in an 1870 census with no children.
It is Gebke's out-of-wedlock son Dirk who is the 11 month old.
Fentje married "#41 Steffer Aresmick" - correct name is Stoffer
(Christopher) Ansmink - in 1869 in Woodford County, IL.
I can find no mention of Taalke once she is in the USA.
I'm still looking for her! Gebke married Herman Hinrichs in 1870
and had a child, George, with him that year. Herman also died
that year and in 1872 she married Johann Moritz having 6 more
boys and one girl. Fentje's husband, Stoffer, died in 1882.
They had 6 children. She later married Jacobus Adams and had
5 more children, settling in Iroquois County.
Thank you for linking this information and including my
email address. You guys are great!

Brief history of the voyage of this ship, Bark Jenny:
Two page diary of Maria Jacobs (nee Janssen--passenger # 129-see also notes above), written on the journey aboard the Bark Jenny from Bremen, Germany to New York, March 18, 1869 to April 16, 1869. (She was about 3 months pregnant with her first child, Wilke Jacobs, at the time):
"We left the harbor at Bremen at 2:00 p.m. on the 18th March (1869). The 19th of March we stopped for inspections along the coast. On the 20th March at 5:00 a.m. we sailed into the sea. We came into the English Channel at 4:00 a.m. on March 22. There we could see land from both sides of the ship; England to the north and France to the south. In the morning of March 23rd we arrived in the big ocean. We saw a shark in the water on March 28th. We've never seen such a fish. On the 30th of March we had very strong south-southwesterly winds and when the waves came against the ship the water came onto the deck and down on me through holes. On the 31st March we again had a good sailing wind. The first of April a woman was delivered of a child. On the 2nd of April in the morning it was so calm that the great waters were as smooth as those in our wayside ditches."
