Johann Bugen 21 M Workman Hessen Newyork C.Andressen Transcriber's Notes: * At the bottom of the first paragraph are two indecipherable signatures; one near the certification Ct Cl???ly and the second overlies burthen and is C????en or er * The Died on the voyage column is omitted since no deaths were recorded. * RE the column Sex; Male has been abreviated to M and Female to F * RE Occupation Column: The occupation transcribed as "Workman" could also be possibly regarded as "Washman". The third letter often has a little sharp angle at the top and the second letter is often open at the top, thus the vagueness of it being either "a" or "o". The term "Waefer" is a cause for confusion. One of the consultants suggested that the one who wrote this term may have written it phonetically in which case with a German accent the original language term may well be "Weaver", a common occupation in that period. * 1. The first three words probably represent abbreviations for first names. * 2,3,5 * Occupation column is blank * 9 Cat. is probably an abbreviation for Catherine * 15 The sex listed is inconsistent with the given (first) name * 29 Fiekelss??? could be her or tier * 33 The ? looks like an e but with a dot over it so itlooks like i. * 36 The ?? are blurred by dark shadows * 65 The ? looks like ‘ei’ but is probably ‘a’ - Catharina * 85 The age on the original is written 1 1/2. * 86 The ? looks like an ‘n’ but could be an ‘r’. * 88 The age on the original is written 2 1/2 * 89 The age on the original is written 1/2 * 101 The stated sex is inconsistent with name and occupation and is therefore a male. * 106 The stated name is not consistent with the stated sex. * 109 The ? could be a terminal ‘z’ or merely a flourish Faustz/Faust * 110,111 The ? looks something like an E but is not like any on the list. A suggestion is that it is ‘Fl’ which make the names Fleisgerber
