Transcriber's Notes:
My ancestor, Jost Burk, was born in Herzhausen (Hesse) near Marburg, settled in Cleveland OH
and married Eva Margaretha Eckstein in 1854. They had 11 children between
1855 and 1881. He died in November 1888. For more information

1. ? indicates letters that could not be read, due to quality of
original document, recorder's penmanship and/or transcriber's skill.
2. * indicates an omission or error made by the original recorder.
3. Original manifest did not number the passengers. Passengers were
recorded with their given name first, followed by their surname.
4. The recorder extensively used wavy lines under the words entered in the
two Country columns; sometimes running the length of the page, other times
until interrupted by a different entry.
5. Lines containing the words 'U States' identify the start of the next
page of entries, e.g. line 33 and 172.
6. Other records indicate this trip took 43 days.
Formatter's note:
Although the captain wrote the surname for only the head of household, the
formatter has added the surname for the rest of the family group.
