Correspondence 06/08/01 passengers #41-45 PRANG
I noted you had a question on the name of the passengers #41 thru 45.
The name was definitely PRANGE. They were my gg grandparents and my
g grandfather and his two siblings. They Americanized the name to
PRONG after their arrival in America, but you will even find that
the reference book Germans to America got the name wrong. They
had it as PRAUGE which was definitely incorrect.
This PRANGE family settled in Menomonie, Dunn Co., Wisconsin where Auguste
(Augusta) PRONG died on 19 Oct 1898. The oldest son Friedrich or Fritz (as
you have on the list) married in 1888 and just after 1900 he moved with his
family and his widowed father to Snohomish County, Washington where they
remained for the rest of their lives. Fritz was my g-grandfather.
The two other children Heinrich (Henry) and Carolina (Lina) remained in Dunn
County and raised families there.
