Correspondence 03/05/2003 passenger #15/16 Hinish/Heinnish
My 4 time great grandfather, Henry Heinnish, was one of the
immigrants who came over on the ship Halifax in Oct 1754 from
Rotterdam to Philadelphia.
He left Philly, lived in York, Pa. for a period of time. Met
Maria Elizabeth Peck in York and married her. He then lived
in the Haggerstown, Md area for a period of time before coming
to and settling in Bedford County, Pa. in 1770. Sometime before
coming to Bedford County he changed his name to Henry Hinish.
He made application for and received a land warrant for 50 acres
of land in Feb 27, 1794. He had nine children of which all but
one remained in Bedford county. Henry Hinish died 10/29/1801.
He is buried in the family cemetry which is located on land
he obtained in 1794. Sam Hinish
Correspondence 02/27/2004 passenger #24/25 Buhler
My GGGGGF was Conrad Buhler (Beighley). My records show that at 17 he
came over on the Ship Halifax on 10-22-1754 - Rotterdam to Philadelphia.
He became an apprentice to George Wiles and worked as a blacksmith to
pay off his and his fathers passage.
He met and married Margaretta Susan Wiles, daughter of George Wiles,
living in Frederick, MD. His father Johanis Conrad Buchli came with
his wife Catherine Elizabeth soon thereafter.
After the revolutionary war, Conrad was alloted 150 acres of land in
Westmoreland Co., PA for his military service. This became the
Bigleysburg tract. He lived there until he died in 1824 at 87.
Lorna Bighley Daugherity Sparks, NV
Correspondence 01/10/2005 passenger #18 Rabenstein
My 6th great grandfather was Albrecht Rabenstein, passenger # 18, onboard the
ship Halifax that sailed from Rotterdam to Philadelphia and arrived on
October 22, 1754. He settled in York County Pennsylvania and married
Barbara Sherman. They had five children and I am descended from their
youngest Johann Nicholas Rabenstein. Albrecht, a farmer, died around 1778
and left 60 acres of land to his oldest son Johann Theobald Dewalt Rabenstein,
(Who also was a veteran of the American Revolution), a bed and spinning wheel
to his wife and provided for Johann Nicholas to attend school.
The Rabenstein family has stayed primarily in York County Pennsylvania,
however a few of Albrecht's descendants have moved away to Maryland and
New Jersey. The family that moved to New Jersey, (my great grandparents)
changed the spelling of the last name to RabenstINE, and most Rabenstines
in NJ today are related to this branch of the family. A. Whitson
