What to Do??
When I get correspondence from a researcher, what do I do? Simply write to them and ask them for a short paragraph telling us about there ancestor, where they settled, children etc. Ask if we can link to their email address or home page. You can also ask if they have a picture, if it is a later voyage. We can link to a picture from the manifest. EXAMPLE: Name, thank you for your correspondence regarding the ship ------- in Volume -- on ISTG. Would you care to submit a paragraph of history on your ancestor? We can link the information to your email address or a home page, if you have one. This enables other researchers researching the same family to contact you. We can also add a picture if you have one. Glad you found your family on ISTG. Signed --(you), ISTG Volunteer What do I do when I get the paragraph back? Please send to Patty Be sure and include Volume number and name and date of ship. What do I do if the researcher wants a copy of the manifest? If they only want a copy of the page their ancestor is located on then please make a copy, either by scanning it and sending to them by email, or a hard copy and send by US post. There is no charge for this. If they want a copy of the entire manifest, then please explain that it cost $10 (a donation to ISTG) plus the cost for you to make copies and mail to them. What if I have a correction to make on my transcription? If it is a major revision, (like adding numbers to 100 passengers) please resubmit the entire revised manifest to Mary Beth making sure you tell her that it is a revision and what volume it is in. If there are minor corrections, a few name changes, ages, places, etc., then please send to Patty, again putting the name and date of the ship and the volume number, then listing the things you want corrected. If there are name changes be sure and also send the list of old names "to be replaced with" and new names to Pam, again making sure you include the name of the ship (including date) and volume the list is in online. What if I change my email address? Please make a list of the ships you transcribed, and which volume they are in, and send to Patty.Comments, corrections or additions to this page
