Transcriber's Notes:
This transcriber's great-grandmother Julia Ward and great-great-grandmother Anne Ward
from near Ballymahon, County Longford, Ireland, were on board this ship. Anne Ward's
husband and Julia's father Peter Ward died in 1848 in County Longford. After
immigrating, Julia remained in Philadelphia with the rest of her family for several
years, before her marriage in 1854 to Patrick Conlon, also from the area of Ballymahon,
County Longford. Patrick and Julia Conlon settled outside the city of St. Louis,
Missouri by 1857, where they eventually reared their nine children on a large farm
called Sylvan Retreat. The house had originally been built by the Civil War General
Frank P. Blair for his own brother. There was for many years an old tree on the
property against which a Civil War spy had been shot. It was also claimed that the
Daniel Boone trail traversed the property. Anne Ward died in Philadelphia in 1854.
Patrick Conlon lived until 1901 and Julia Ward Conlon lived on until 1915, in
St. Louis County, Missouri.
