John Vint Sr. was born about 1820. He lived in Ireland in the port town of Donaghadee on the east coast opposite Port Patrick in Scotland. He said that he was Scottish. He married Mary Fagan about 1840 and they had 3 children baptized in Donaghadee before leaving for America. They had 4 more children during the 1850s in New York. They have many descendants now scattered across the US. John Sr. seems to have died about 1870 but I have found no record in New York. Mary died in Brooklyn, NY in 1896.
John Vint Jr. was born in Donaghadee in Ireland on the first day of May 1848. He became a printer and worked for Doubleday in Garden City, NY. He married Mary Scott and they had 9 children. He died in Hempstead, NY in 1933. John Jr. is my great grandfather. A picture of John Vint Sr. Correspondence 04/05/2004 passengers O'Bro/O'Brien In researching my ancestry, I found my Great, Great Grandmother Margaret O'Brien and her children, including my Great Grandfather Samuel O'Brien (age 9 mos) on the ISTG website. However, the passenger manifest for the BR Riverdale which sailed from Belfast, Ireland to NYC 12 Nov 1851 on ISTG's website has their surname as "O BRO???," when in reality it is 'O'Brien." Family records provide undeniably these are our O'Briens. Old family records show Samuel Leroy O'Brien was 9 mos old when he came to America. He was born in Ireland 1850. The O'BRO??? names on the ship's manifest match our family records exactly. The ancestry is verifiable. J. Hughes Turner
