DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, George Nordenholdt, master of the German Bark Norma do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collections District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said vessel at Bremen from which Port said vessel has now arrived; and that on the said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of the said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who have died.

No passengers died on the voyage, therefore this coloumn was eliminated. 

*  An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not the
   transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information in 
   the transcriber's notes.

?  Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the
   condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.

^  A ^ followed by a letter indicates that the letter was superscripted.

*  Names were transcribed as seen regardless of spelling.

*  Passengers were numbered by reviewer for ease of referencing.

*  The captain's name is spelled with dt at the end twice, only a t once. 

*  All ages that are in months only are written in fractions (3/4 or 4/12). This was
   changed to months by the reviewer according to ISTG guidelines.

 2:      Mich could stand for Michael.
 8:      Gust? could stand for Gustav.
 9:      the sedond letter of the last name is covered by the down stroke of the z 
         in the name above, it cannot be read.
10:      the last name, Rutteger, is spelled with u Umlaut.
17:      Gottfr. could stand for Gottfried.
19:      the missing letter in the last name could be a or e.
23:      Wilh. is the usual abbreviation for Wilhelm.
26:      Jac could stand for Jacob.
27:      the occupation is transcribed as spelled, the British version.
29:      the occupation is transcribed as spelled, the British version.
32:      the occupation is transcribed as spelled, the British version. 
         Joh. could stand for Johann or Johannes.
33:      Mich could stand for Michael.
36:      Friedr could stand for Friedrich.

Correspondence 03/16/2005 passenger #39 Bierfischer  
My great-grandfather arrived on the Norma, Bremen-New York, on March 30, 1872.  
His name is Hermann Bierfischer.  He was born  in Oldenburg, Germany.  After arriving 
in NYC, he settled in Chicago, became a butcher, married another emigrant from Oldenburg, 
and was naturalized in 1889. Mary Burfisher
