Schooner Lucy Ames
I, A. F. Ames do solemnly, sincerely and truly (unreadable) that the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Sch. Lucy Ames whereof I am Master, from Kingston. So Help me God.
Sworn to this March 29 1855 Before me (signature unreadable)
List or Manifest OF ALL PASSENGERS taken on board the Sch. Lucy Ames, A. F. Ames is Master, from Kingston burthen 149 tons.
Columns represent: Names, Age, Sex, Occupation, The country to which they severally belong, The country in which they intend to become inhabitants.
1* P. Cooper 21 male ? ? US 2* W. Truscott 26 male ? ? US 3* R. S???? ?0 male ? ? US 4* J. Hocking ?1 male ? ? US 5* J. Scott ?2 male ? ? US Transcriber's Notes: * An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not the transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information in the transcriber's notes. ? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder. The ship abbreviation Sch is believed to stand for Schooner. There were no death or births on this voyage thus that column has been eliminated. The ages of all passengers was written in the Months column but I believe that this was done in error and should have been Years. This document indicated that there were only 5 passengers on the trip. The names appear to have been written once then written over top again as though the ink ran out of the pen used. Under the column "The country to which they severally belong" the word had been badly smudged but the word appears to begin with E?g???, maybe England. All remaining passengers have ditto marks indicating they were all from the same place. Passenger numbers were added to aid in referencing. 1 Cooper - Occupation is not clear but could be I keeper, which could be innkeeper. 2 Truscott - Occupation is fairly unreadable but could be miner. All remaining passengers have ditto marks indicating they all had the same occupation. 3 S???? - The passenger name is unreadable, age could be 30 or 80. Due to the overwriting this passenger is unknown. 4 Hocking - The age could be 21 or 31, due to the overwriting of the age. 5 Scott - The age could be 32 or 82, due to the overwriting of the age.
