Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder. Because all passengers are shown as having Germany as The Country to which they severally belong, and having United States as The Country in which they intend to become inhabitants, I have chosen to eliminate those columns from this listing. The list is recorded as it was written. The original writer chose to show the surname of the first member of each family, followed by other family members, without the surname being repeated. The names have been added by the reviewer for easier reference. Passenger numbers were added to aid in referencing. 10, 15 presumed to be child of above-named family 35, 42 surname may be LAUTINSLIGER 77 surname may be RECKLE, STECKLE or HECKLE 96 surname may be REDEL or STEDEL 115-116,147 sex is shown incorrectly on manifest Correspondence 01/10/2005 passenger FITZ/FETZ All passengers on the General Hamilton were from Germany. The family name is FETZ, spelled FITZ (illegible),however I am not sure as to where in Germany this family lived before immigration to America. JOSEPH FETZ It is uncertain where this Fetz family spent their first few years after arriving in America. But in 1836 the Louisville, KY. City Directory shows Joseph Fetz operating a boarding house on the east side of fifth street in that city between Main and Water streets. In 1837 Joseph Fetz, Sr. as a resident of Louisville, Ky. bought 2 parcels of land from J.B. and Mary Ford in Greenville Township, Floyd County, Indiana. There is no evidence that they moved to Indiana at this time. Joseph and Mary Fetz (spelled Fitz) in the Louisville, City Directory in 1838-39 were listed as operating a coffee house and boarding house along with their son Charles (Karl in Germany) It is believed that the Fetz family stayed in Louisville until 1840-42, but without their daughter Theresa who had by this time married Anthony Warner in 1833. This Anthony Warner traveled on board the same ship, General Hamilton, as the Fetz had. He was listed as Anton Werner age 27 male, mechanic along with what appears to be two male and one female siblings. Why Anton Werner later changed his name to Anthony Warner is unknown. About 1837 Anthony Warner and Theresa (Fetz) Warner along with a son, Charles Columbus Warner b. 07/25/1835, moved to Nashville, TN. In 1842 the boarding house and coffee house in Louisville,Ky. and the two parcels of land in Greenville, Indiana were deeded over to Joseph and Mary's two sons Joseph and Charles (Karl) and they moved to Nashville, TN. with their daughter Theresa Werner and her family. Joseph and Mary bought property in Nashville consisting of a lot that fronted College Street in Oct. of 1843. The Nashville City Directory shows that Joseph Fetz operated a family grocery there in 1855-1857. Their Daughter Theresa and husband Anthony lived nearby on the corner of Summer and Jefferson streets. Lewis A. Fetz Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130
