Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not
the transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information
in the transcriber's notes.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the
condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
* The British Bark "Dorothy" arrived 23 May 1834 in Philadelphia from
Londonderry per handwriting at the beginning (and separate) of the list.
There is no sworn statement where the date is customarily found.
* The opening statement has large segments which are obscured. However,
this statement is the same form as that found in the Brig Dido which
is transcribed elsewhere on this website. Column titles on that
form are probably also the same as column titles on this list.
* There is a column between the "Place of Birth" and "Age" which is
entitled "Last Legal Settlement" and it contains the entry "Ireland"
throughout the list so it has not been copied here.
* There is a column after "Occupation" which is entitled "Remarks".
There were no entries in this column so it has not been transcribed
here.
Passenger numbers have been added for ease in referencing.
1-13 The names in the first 13 rows were completely obscured. Thus the
single ? refers to names in these rows whose length cannot be determined.
9 The ? mark in the age appears to be either an 8 or a 6.
14 "Nancy" has the same last name as the person in row 13 which
cannot be determined.
22 Ha?niah could be Hannah, with a dot inadvertently placed above what
would be the last peak of the second "n". The "?" could also be
an "r".
24 William Sloan's age appears to be "10" but that is not likely.
There is a small tail on the first digit so perhaps this is "20".
32 The first digit of Mary Sullivan's age could be an erasure followed by
"4" or it could be a totally illegible number.
33 John Booth's age could be "20" or "26".
61 John Gray's age is obscured but the second digit comes below the line
in the style of a "7" or "9" with this writer.
62 Logan*???, (the entry after John Gray) has the occupation written in
as "Spinster" and this was crossed through with an illegible entry
written above it, possibly "labourer."
62 The first "???" Logan could be "Sst".
65 The second "???" Logan appears to be "GS" with a small "c" in superscript,
or possibly a "JS" with a small "c" in superscript.
117 "??? ?itton": Entry is smudged. First name appears to be "ESa" with the
"a" as superscript. Or perhaps this is "Ela" which could be abbreviation
for "Elizabeth." The first letter of the last name is too smudged to be read.
160 "????" Hughes is so faint that I cannot decipher the letters or the number
of letters. I put in four question marks because the name lines up with
Hugh Wilson above it.
