Transcriber's Notes:
The use of an * indicates an omission or error made by the original
recorder or an entry that needs explanation.
The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read,
due to quality of original statement.
In Master's Statement:
* Newyork written as one word in the Master's Statement.
* Bremen written in original; probably should have been "Steamship"
or "Donau"
* "an" in original; probably should have been "and"
* "tis" in original; probably should have been "this"
1 T?nse? Surname could be Tamsel, Tunsel, Tansee or Tunsee, but
last letter more like l than e.
* 1 After Cuba there is an entry of 1 - 0; this passenger also listed
as Died on the Voyage.
* 3 Has ditto mark for occupation, but line above is blank. I assume
the ditto is for "merchant" two lines above. This occurs frequently
in this list.
5 Grace? Surname could be Gracel
6 Fracn?kel Surname could be Fracnakel or Fracnekel
7 Fracn?kel ? could be an a or an e.
8 Simon Age looks like 30, but 3 could be a 2.
11 Ebeli?g Surname could be Ebeling or Ebeliseg
* 12 Name unrecognizable; fold in the original. Readable Age and ditto
marks in other columns.
14 Castired??? First ? could be a y or j, next could be a k, s, or t,
third ? could be an e or l.
15 Eb?ling could be Ebcling or Ebeling
* 18 Thuringia is a region in the southwest part of East Germany.
* 18 There is a ditto mark indicating U.S.A for Country where Intend to
Become Inhabitants, but "Germany off" is written over the ditto.
This passenger may have left the ship at Bremen.
20 4? Age looks like 41 but the 1 has a slight curl at the bottom and
a light line on the top; could be a 5.
24 Ruman? Letter could be an r; appears to be only one letter.
Passenger died on the voyage.
* 24 1 - 0 entered in Intended Country column in front of ditto mark
for U.S.A
29 ??ay Surname could be Alay or Hay
* 31 Preston Williams A line is drawn across the page for this entry.
May be some kind of tally since 12 - 8 is written under the line
in the Country of Intended Inhabitant column and
* 20 is written under the line in the Died on Voyage column.
* 34 11 - 1 entered in Intended Country column; 12 entered in Died
column. Some kind of tally?
* Under #34 entry (bottom of pg. 1), 12 - 1 entered in Sex column
with 13 entered underneath.
* Line drawn across Died Column with 34 entered underneath. Tally
of some kind?
36 ?abel Surname could be Yabel or Gabel.
37 Je???crich Three or four letters unreadable; all look like u, n,
or possibly r, s or c.
39 Thamshaus? Last letter in surname could be an r, s or an i
(not dotted).
40 Rig??tti Surname could be Rigistti or Rigutti.
* 40 In addition to ditto for U.S.A, 1 - 0 entered in this column
42 Sp??e Surname could be Spice or Spue.
* 43 No other name given; assume Wolf is the surname.
* In addition to ditto for U.S.A, 2 - 1 entered in Intended Country
column.
* Number 3 is lightly written in Died column. No explanation.
* 50 Cathrne Leifert The letters rne are raised, small print with a
dot under the n.
* 55 In addition to ditto for U.S.A, X7 - 10 written in column. The X
seems to X-out a mark underneath.
* X17 written in Died column. The X obscurs a number underneath.
56 Vo?tek Halaska First name is either Vojtek or Voftek.
57 Fran?iska Halaska Missing letter could be an s or a z.
* 63 Cathrne Cubik The letters rne are raised, small print with dot
under the n.
* 64 Kruger Mark over the u, could be an umlat.
70 Al?i? Vorel Given name could be Alois or Alvio.
* 79 In addition to ditto for U.S.A, 11 13 is written. Number 24
written in Died column.
* Under #79 entry (bottom margin of pg. 2) there are entries in
three columns:
45 written at right edge of Name column;
21 24 with 55 underneath written in Sex column;
Died column has a line drawn across with 45 written underneath.
