SS City of Chester
DISTRICT OF NEW YORK -- PORT OF NEW YORK
I, Samuel Brooks, master of the S. S. City of Chester do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said SS City of Chester at Liverpool and Queenstown from which Port said SS City of Chester has now arrived; and that on the said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of the said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who have died. Transcribers Notes:
General observation: the writer consistantly made his "n" upside down to
look like a "u" or "w".
The manifest scribe numbered the passengers but restarted with #1 with change
in Space Occupied. To aid with referencing, the passengers have been renumbered
sequentially.
*Passenger 8: Could by Dauady, there is an accent mark over the "a" in
Richa?d
*Passenger 32: A letter was scratched out after the "Be."
*Passenger 40: The "L" seems clear but it could be and "S" for Silcock
*Passenger 95: ?? could be "ne"
*Passenger 97: Leyeant seems clear but could be Leyeaut
*Passenger 104: ?? appears to be "ae"
*Passenger 105: ?? could be "in" but not clear
*Passenger 156: ? the "y" of the above name covers the letter. It may
be an "s" or not exist
*Passenger 183: umlaut over the "u" in Mullar
*Passenger 196: ? could be "u" or "n"
*Passenger 219: Lawrence abreviated
*Passenger 225: Reverend abreviated
