Ship Chariot


DISTRICT OF BOSTON AND CHARLESTOWN – PORT OF BOSTON
10 August 1826

I, Peter Pratt, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear, that the within REPORT and LIST, subscribed with my name and now delivered by me to the Collector of the district of BOSTON AND CHARLESTOWN, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, the names, age, sex and occupation of all the passengers, together with the name of the country to which they severally belong, and that of which they intend to become inhabitants, which were on board the Ship Chariot whereof I am at present master, at the time of her sailing from the port of Liverpool or which have at any time since been taken on board the said vessel. And I do likewise swear, that all matters whatsoever in said report and list expressed, are, to the best of my knowledge and belief, just and true. SO HELP ME GOD. REPORT AND LIST of the passengers taken on board the Ship Chariot of Boston whereof Pratt is master, burthen 359 tons and 50/95ths of a ton, bound from the port of Liverpool for Boston.

10 Susan Robinson: marked as male.
14 Unnamed child born on the voyage, listed after the Robinson family.
16-17 S????: letters do not extend above or below the line. Third letter could be x.  
      Second letter e or i.  Last letter n or r.  Looks like Sixin. 
18-19 M?????: third or fourth letter extends above the line, 
      the other letters do not.
20 Wm. Ca?e: possibly an s or t in question.  
23 Beckw?th: could be a or u.
25 ? ???ley: last name may begin with Fl or H.  Other letters do not 
   extend above or below the line.  First name possibly Wm.
26 ?agram: possibly begins with H. 
27 Mar? Layland: either Mary or Marg.
28 ?haylor Lyland: possibly begins with S or T. Surname spelled Lyland here.
29 ? Layland: first name about 6 letters.  Too dark to read. 

Correspondence 2/14/02 passenger 
Joseph Brooks on ship Chariot 1826, I believe is my gggrandfather.  Settled
in Van Buren, Onondaga, NY until 1844, going to Burr Oak, St Joseph,
Michigan.  Children: John, George, James Henry (my ggrandfather), Ann, Mary,
Thomas, Joseph Allen, Elizabeth.
