Non-Chinese Passengers listed separately on Page 1
Recapitualtion Men Women Total foe San Francisco 76 5 81 For Portland 8 3 11 For Panama 12 12 For Havana 18 18 114 8 122 Transcriber's Notes: The pages on this film are not numbered so finding a particular ship can be difficult. However, There appears to be a system of numbering the manifests. These numbers are included in the identification of the film and reel numbers below. Passengers' name and age are followed by a stamp that varies depending on the disposition of the passenger which is stamped over the columns for Occupation, Last Place of Residence, Height, Complexion, Color of Eyes, Physical marks or Peculiarities and Facts of Identification. There are no other entries in these columns. Passengers allowed to land have one of the following stamps: Landed Collectors order_________(blank with a month and day date written in) 1893 by Insp's _____(blank for a name). In this case the name is Grant. Many of these passengers have a place name written over the stamp. Where there is a blank in this column no place is written in. Where there is a question mark the entry is illegible. Landed "I.T." Transit List followed by a number. These passengers are bound for a further port. Passengers not allowed to land have one of two different stamps: Habeas Corpus U.S.D.C. Case followed by a number. These passengers were probably allowed to land, but not to freely enter the country. Refused Departed Per Steamer ______ (name of ship) _________ (date). The columns have been rearranged in the transcription for passengers to Portland, Panama and Havana. Grocer comes after the age column. Passenger Notes: 6 Destination could be Anaconda. 20 There is no indication of the meaning of "OK T8397." 34 Destination looks most like Sacto. 34-45 There are no entries in the final column, perhaps the ink is faded and illegible. 58 "C.H. Certif" is written before affdt. 59 Grocer is written into the line. 63 only St is legible is Destination. 64 Destination is probably Vancouver. 87-88 These passengers each have a note in the margin "fever" and a note in the line "to join her husband." 88 After the USDC case number is written "see 12017/6470." 122 There is an illegible word or words after rejected by City. At the end of this line it says "by Steamer" but no name of the steamer is given.
