Correspondence added October 12,2010 - Passenger 2, Shaw I believe the Alexr H Shaw who was passenger on the Andromache may be Alexander Hamilton Shaw, son of Dr David Shaw, Surgeon, and Henrietta Campbell of Edinburgh and St Mary’s Jamaica. Alexander was their fourth son (and seventh child) and was born 24 Oct 1798, I believe in Jamaica. In 1817 he was a witness at his older sister’s (my g-g-g-grandmother’s) wedding in Edinburgh, when his stated occupation was merchant. He later returned to Jamaica, whether from New York or on another voyage I am not sure. In 1838 he took over the family plantation (post-abolition in Jamaica) from his mother (his father died in 1805) but by 1851 he was working in Jamaica as a police inspector. He retired in 1867 and died 13th December 1872. I don’t believe he ever married. I would be interested to hear from anyone researching any member of this Shaw-Campbell family. All the best Janet Finlay
