Formatter's Notes:
These lists have two different spellings for the ship, Snow Bettsey and
Snow Betsie. I have attempted to match the passengers on all three of these lists.
Passenger numbers added to aid with referencing.
Correspondence: August 4, 1999 - ancestor found, Peter Blaser. Amy Carter
Correspondence: January, 2000 - Conrad Becker
Thank you for your listing of the immigrants aboard the Snow Betsie - I was
told my ancestor Conrad Becker and his two brothers were aboard that ship but
I could not find the names of the brothers. Of course, I find through your
good work that there were four "Beckers" aboard this ship, so now I have more
than I wanted to work with. Thank you again.

Frantz Welchel -This relative has been found by writing to the Hague.
He settled in PA. He had several children. Eleven generations have been
documented and will be in a book that will be for sale at the

Correspondence 7 August 2002, Conrad Hackensmith (also see more correspondence below)
I have a relative listed on the August 27, 1739 sailing of the Snow Betsie.
His name was Conrad Hackensmith. The following is information I have on Conrad,
and his descendants.
Hackersmith / Hockensmith Connection
Conrad Hackersmith
B. 1720 Germany
D. 1795 Frederick County, Md.
Conrad Hackersmith
B. 1740
D. 1773 Jessamine County, Ky.
Eva Hockensmith
B. 1783
D. 1861 St. Louis County. Mo.
The Hockensmith / Hackersmith is also German and descended from the original
immigrant, Conrad Hockersmith.
Conrad was born in Germany in 1720 and came to America aboard the ship
Snow Betsie and arrived in Pensylvania on August 27, 1739. Conrad is
listed on the Snow Betsie's captain's log as Conrad Hacken Smith and
corrected upon landing as Conrad Hackensmith. The ship set sail from
Rotterdam.
Conrad remained in the general area of eastern Pensylvania for a few
years and then headed to Lancaster County where other German families
lived. All of Conrad's children were born in Lancaster County.
Sometime later the family moved into Maryland where Conrad deeeded land
recorded in 1762 in Tanneytown and Emmitsburg in 1788. He also owned land
in Bedford County.
He was married to Maria / Mary Christiana Winholts, who may have been his
second wife. They had four children.
Eva Hockersmith married James Breckenridge in July 1772 and had ten children.
James met Daniel Boone and traveled with him several times into what was then
Louisiana, now St. Louis, County. After exploring with Boone and others
James and Eva moved their family to St. Louis. She died on October 31, 1861
and is buried in Cold Water Creek cemetery in Florrissant Missouri, St. Louis
County. Cold Water Creek is where Eava's Patterson relatives are buried
including the land donor John Patterson. Dan Thompson
Correspondence March 30, 2003 passenger Conrad Hackensmith
I am a direct descendant of Conrad Hackenschmidt/Hockersmith/
Hockensmith/Hawkersmith (anglized spellings). The
information above submitted by Dan Thompson on this page is
mostly incorrect. Conrad settled in Frederick County, Md
where his children were born, all 4..they were baptized in
Lancaster Pa but all lived in earlier days in first Bedford
County, Pa then settled in Frederick County, Md and
the immigrant is buried there in Tom's Creek Hundred
burial ground. What I am saying is PROVEN by the
Hockersmith/Hockensmith Family Association..our
family historian is Margaret Kwadrat of Reston, VA
please enter this correction. Lawanda Douglas
Correspondence January 17, 2005, passenger Miller
It is quite possible that Johan Heinrick Miller, listed on the Snow Betsie
is our immigrant Miller. We believe he settled in Myersville, PA but are unsure
of his wife. One son was Samuel Miller, probably born in Myersville. We are sure
of the third generation and from there to the 10th generation. Any help with the
first two generations will be much appreciated. L. Samuel Miller
