Contributor's Notes:
George Gew, passenger #51 (also spelled Gue) was the g.g.g.g grandfather of
John Bowman, the contributor of this list. John writes us: The crime for
which he served time in Newgate and was later deported was that he and a
cohort stole a pig and the sack in which I presume they carried it away.
The partner-in-crime, James Moulding ,was on the Pretty Patsie too-- things
were tough in those days in London, it seems !

I thought that the story was a good one, it brings a human dimension to an
otherwise sometimes lifeless statistic."

The follow-up on George is that after he got to Maryland in 1737, he
settled in the area that is in present-day Montgomery County. By 1747 he
owned a small farm, had married, and had a family. George died in
early 1772, testate, leaving his widow and probably either 8 or 9
children - so the London experience seemed to have straightened him out
- or maybe it was the beneficent effect of married life.

As the line goes in 'Ain't Misbehavin' - -'one never know, do one ?'

Correspondence January 28, 2003 passenger Dixon
I am hoping maybe this "John Dixon" is who I'm looking for. I know the Dixons
were in Virginia 1700's. And I found Thomas Dixon in Maryland 1694, I've hit
a brick wall on my long lost family! Any help appreciated.
