One of my ancestors was Johann Jacob Selig. The spelling was never Seilig, not in Germany or Canada, with the exception that some illiterate persons may have used that spelling. The original manifest which is in the Nova Scotia Archives has "Selig". Furthermore that same manifest shows him as coming from the Palatinate. I have not previously seen his origin as Wurtemburg. The gentleman in question was the only Selig to come to Nova Scotia in that migration and was settled at Lunenburg from where the family spread out generation after generation and all Seligs in that part of Canada can trace their family back to that one man. Of course many moved on, particularly to the USA and took the name there. I should note that other Seligs immigrated to the USA from Germany and I have no knowledge of a family connection. Roger Cunningham Correspondence October 13, 2002 passengers #36 & 37 Hilst I am looking over the info for the ship Murdoch Date: 25 Jun 1751 departure. In the Origin column the places of Origin seem to be mismatched with the other columns. My ancesters, Hilst, both came from the same place yet it shows that they were from different places. As I looked around I found groups of 2 or 3 persons with the same surname showing that they came from different places. The correspondence concerning Selig (above) seems to indicate that these columns have been mismatched somehow. Bob Noble
